"The Drama of Death": Day 35, Lent 2012

I spent a bit of time reading Lamentations (1:1-2; 6-12) this morning and wound up thinking about the chaos of fallen Jerusalem in light of the chaos of a soon-to-be suffering Jesus. The two are headed towards death, Jerusalem an abandoned, once-loved woman whose "filthiness clung to her skirts" and Jesus, a misfit Messiah soon to be rejected even by some of his own disciples.

Both will wind up dead and empty, but might the "Daughter of Zion" paradoxically find life when Jesus joins her (and all the world) in her death? And could it be that the shame associated with a once-empty womb will be re-imagined through a now-empty tomb?

This week we embark upon the ultimate drama of death.
